A beautiful patio can be a fantastic place to enjoy the pleasant spring weather or a cool summer evening. Or perhaps you’re a business owner who needs patio repair. Older patios, especially those poured more than 40 years ago, can begin to look pretty rough from decades of concrete erosion and damage. Plus, uneven concrete can be a potential safety hazard.
Fortunately, you don’t have to tear them out completely to enjoy your patio or get more customers to sit outside in the summer. If you’ve got an outdoor patio that needs a little work, our concrete specialists at ACT Restoration can make it look fantastic in time for the summer.
In this post, we break down our patio revitalization process from start to finish and discuss how we can make your patio look beautiful again.
Step One: Assess the Damage
The first step to getting the beautifully restored patio you’ve been dreaming of is to call our team of concrete restoration contractors to assess the damage. We’ll determine how extensive the damage is and make recommendations for grinding, polishing, and staining.
Most older concrete from a few decades back will have chipping and holes from many years of snow and rain. We’ll also be on the lookout for cracks and bubbles.
Additionally, there may be some degree of erosion.
Step Two: Smooth the Surface
To begin your patio restoration process, we’ll use aggressive diamonds to grind the surface of your concrete. We use a wet grind method that minimizes dust particles and creates a cleaner working environment.
In this process, the water will mix with the ground concrete to create a slurry across your floor. Diamond abrasives used in the wet grind method help create a more precise, smoother surface than other methods.
It’s also the best way to repair certain types of damage.
Step Three: Apply a Stain & Coating
Once we’ve smoothed out your concrete patio floor, it’s time to apply a stain and coating. We have a wide range of concrete stains to choose from and can create a look based on your desired outcome.
For example, for the Fridley patio project, we first applied a base color of concrete stain. After that, we added two enhancer stain colors to complete the look. Finally, we protected it with a coat of urethane mixed with a grit additive to create slip resistance on the patio.
The completed look created a stunning place for the family to relax outdoors!
Step Four: Hiding Patio Imperfections With a Concrete Color Stain
If your concrete patio needs a little extra work to make it beautiful, depending on old stains or imperfections, you can always hide imperfections with concrete color stain. An epoxy application over your concrete patio is a great way to cover or erase imperfections while simultaneously making your patio stand out.
There are so many colors and looks to choose from that you will certainly find a color that matches your home or business’s aesthetic. From bright colors to natural-looking neutrals, ACT Restoration can help your patio shine.
Step Five: More Exterior Concrete Upgrades to Consider
Patios aren’t the only thing that ACT Restoration can help you with. If your home or business needs concrete sidewalk repair or front entry and step repair, ACT Restoration can help.
As mentioned earlier, broken or cracked concrete can be a safety concern, plus it can be unsightly. After the concrete has been repaired by our wet grind method, we can coat the area with epoxy to make it look even more beautiful, giving your home or business a positive first impression.
